From your very first placement and throughout your caring journey, a dedicated Placement Support Worker will get to know you, your household and your expectations. Support is tailored to your needs, so you can focus on providing a safe, nurturing and stable home for the child in your care.
Ongoing Support for Foster & Kinship Carers
We provide practical, emotional and professional support to ensure you never feel alone in your caring role.
Financial Support
All foster and kinship carers receive a tax free government allowance, paid fortnightly, to help cover everyday living expenses. Carers also receive access to a Carer Business Discount Card, offering retail discounts across Queensland.
24/7 Support When You Need It
Caring doesn’t stop after hours — and neither do we. You have access to support workers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for advice, guidance and assistance.
Dedicated Placement Support Worker
Your support worker will:
- Provide one on one guidance and advocacy.
- Visit you in your home monthly.
- Be available by phone and email.
- Connect you with helpful resources and services.
Connection, Training and Community
We host events throughout the year, including:
- Advanced and carer identified training opportunities.
- Social events for carers and children in care.
- Opportunities to connect with other foster and kinship carers.
Short Break Care
Short break care options are available to support full-time carers and promote wellbeing for both carers and children.
We are committed to walking beside you to ensure both you and the child in your care have what you need to thrive.
Preparing for Your Journey as a carer
Training is an essential part of becoming a foster carer. The Getting Ready to Start training program is designed to give you confidence, knowledge and practical skills before welcoming a child into your home.
The program includes four core modules:
- Module One: Context of Foster Care
- Module Two: Understanding the Child’s Past
- Module Three: Early Days in Placement
- Module Four: Quality Care – Working Together
Each module includes session plans, presentations, handouts and assessment materials.
Following training, the next step is your initial assessment, which will be explained in detail during training or when you speak with a member of our team.
