2024 marked a significant milestone for AnglicareCQ as we proudly celebrated 40 years of dedicated service to our local community.
From humble beginnings in the early 1980s with four staff, today the organisation has more than 200 staff based in eight towns across Central Queensland.
Careforce
In the early 1980s, newly elected Bishop George Hearn was motivated to continue the Rockhampton Diocese’s history of social welfare.
This commitment led to the creation of Careforce in May 1983, focussing on providing support and intervention for families at risk.
Anglicare Central Queensland Ltd
By the mid-1990s, Anglican social welfare agencies across the country were taking on a common name — Anglicare — and in 1998 Careforce officially became Anglicare Central Queensland Ltd (AnglicareCQ).
Today AnglicareCQ offers services across five portfolios – Foster and Kinship Care, Residential Care and Specialised Support, Housing and Homelessness, Mental Health, Children Youth and Families, all supported by our Business Services and People and Culture teams. A constant across the years has been AnglicareCQ’s commitment to our values and to “working with people to make the best of their lives”.
