City Centre Plaza commits to making families smile this Christmas
Christmas is usually a special and happy occasion, but for many people in our local community who may be dealing with financial crisis, family breakdown, disability, or social isolation, it can also be one of the toughest times of the year.
With the support of City Centre Plaza, the Rockhampton community are invited to provide some hope and joy to families in need this Christmas by donating non-perishable food items to be included in hampers.
Every Christmas in partnership with local churches and community organisations Anglicare Central Queensland has coordinated and delivered hundreds of Christmas hampers to those families and individuals needing support.
This has also included ensuring children and young people spending their Christmas in foster, kinship or residential care have presents under the tree just like every child.
Anglicare Central Queensland CEO, Suzie Christensen feels that Christmas should be a celebration for everyone, with presents under the tree and dinner on the table.
“We know that for people dealing with financial hardship, disability and/or illness Christmas can often be a stressful and lonely time,” said Ms Christensen.
“We are so grateful to City Centre Plaza for their ongoing support and care for our local community.”
City Centre Plaza Manager, (insert name) was excited to introduce the food drive saying she hoped the donated food would go a small way towards assisting families who find themselves in challenging situations.
“We are always proud of how the Rockhampton community steps in and helps out when called upon and City Centre Plaza is thrilled to offer a location point for donations.”
“By purchasing one item extra in your weekly shop, you can make a big difference to someone’s Christmas.”
Anglicare Central Queensland works with people of all backgrounds, beliefs and walks of life to make the best of their lives. Our efforts concentrate on child protection including foster care, affordable housing so everyone has a safe place to call home, and community support services working with youth, helping people access housing, supporting families and providing services relating to mental health and disability.
We place people at the centre of everything we do and through our understanding and empathy encourage and support each person on their own journey.
The City Centre Plaza Food Drive will run from 20th November until 24th December and donations can be placed in the cage outside (insert where located).
Volunteers from Anglicare Central Queensland will also commence gift wrapping in the Centre from 27th November.
Anglicare Central Queensland and City Centre Plaza encourage the Rockhampton community to get behind the food drive and choose this year as the year you truly embody the real meaning of Christmas.
